Everyday I pray to God to help me be a keeper that honors Him and takes good care of this beautiful family He has blessed me with and everyday He teaches me something new.

Recently, He’s put in my heart to study in depth Proverbs 31 and write down character traits that stand out the most to me and to pray over and for them. These traits are ones I want to acquire and perfect on a daily basis.

In my newest blog post, I’m sharing 5 ✋🏻 characteristics that are simple and yet life changing for us and those we are called to gatekeep for. I encourage you to head over to my blog and check it out and then, read over Proverbs 31 yourself and do the same thing that I did.

When I first started homeschooling, I thought I knew everything there was to it. I bought all the materials I needed, decided not invest in an actual curriculum just yet, recreated one of our bedrooms into a whole school room, and fit a million educational things into our day.

WHOO! Friend, I still had so much to learn! 🤯

I thought the “right” 🤦🏼‍♀️ way to do this homeschool stuff was to have all those pretty and organized homeschool pictures I saw on social media, become inspiration for our very own Cano Faith Academy here at home.

😫 Boy was I wrong!

I had to learn how to unschool quick if I wanted to continue doing this thanggg!

I can’t tell you how much more we ALL enjoy doing school from bed sometimes, or watching educational videos instead of doing book work all the time, and even just learning through play!

So! 👏🏻 Mama!

Stop believing the lies that there’s a “right” way to homeschool. If God has given you this amazing opportunity to educate your children it’s because you are more than capable to do so. Teach them the way that works for your family and not the way you see everyone else doing it. You will enjoy it and so will your babies.

3 Tips to figuring out this homeschool thing!

📌 Learn your child’s learning style
📌 Remove the “regular” school idea from your mind
📌 PRAY! Pray that God leads you through his Holy Spirit on what you should be doing and how to do it.

✨ HOMEMAKING + GATEKEEPING

The first time I heard someone call me a ‘homemaker’ after learning that I was a stay-at-home mom, I’m not gonna lie, I was a little offended. I didn’t understand what homemaking defined 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Recently, God is has been pouring into me so much on the topic of homemaking (hence why I’ve taken a different approach on writing). So what is homemaking? What is gatekeeping? And how do they tie in together? Let 👏🏻 me 👏🏻 explain👏🏻!

➡️ Homemakers are called to keep the home in order.
When I effectively exercise my role as a homemaker, I’m cooking, cleaning, teaching my children, and tending to my husband; not as chore, but as something that I have been called to do in this season (we’ll get more into that in an upcoming blog post). Knowing that, everything I do for my family is ultimately to honor God and not just ‘get it done because I have to’.

➡️ Gatekeepers are responsible for controlling who has access to a specific entry.
In this case, the gatekeepers, are us mama’s; the homemakers. Besides tending to our homes in the natural, we have a crucial responsibility to tend to our homes in the spiritual. Meaning! We are required to cover our home in prayer and be vigilant so that no spiritual opposition may enter.

Sis, I’m praying hard for God to raise up a generation of modern-day homemakers that can fully grasp onto those concepts and authoritatively walk in their calling for this season. I feel it so heavy in my spirit and I know it needs to be talked about more often than not. So join me in this new journey of intentional homemaking!
