Participating in Halloween for Christians is a very controversial topic, which is why I won’t be getting into details today about why I opt out of actually celebrating it, but one thing I don’t agree on, is hiding and deciding not to share the Gospel on that one specific day.
“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
– Mark 16:15
The Bible doesn’t tell us to share the Gospel only on good days and holidays that celebrate Jesus, it says to go through all the world and do so. In that, I also receive that word as an all day, everyday kind of mandate, not just when we chose.
So in my research of other Christian bloggers participating in Halloween, one thing stuck out to me the most. And that was, gift tags on your candy with a scripture on it. Of course, these bloggers didn’t hide out and refuse to open the door, but they openly received their trick or treaters and gave them their piece of candy with their scripture on it.
It was an amazing idea honestly, but for me? I don’t think I want to be opening the door every few minutes and having to explain to my 3 year old why these kids have on costumes and what they are doing. I personally don’t think she’s old enough to fully comprehend so I don’t want to even bring it up. Instead, I came up with the idea to set out a table in my front porch, with some hug juices and water bottles, along with their gift tag that will say:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
– John 3:16
I was a little nervous to share this idea with my husband because it’s something we have never even considered in our 7 years of being together, but when I told him, he was all for it! Yes, it’s Halloween, I get it! But I refuse to hide out and share the Gospel this one day because it’s not a “christian” holiday. God loves us all, every day, even on Halloween. So I will act on that love and share the message of salvation.
I want to know, do you have any other ways of sharing the Gospel on Halloween? I’ve recently just heard of Christians doing this so I’m all for hearing your ideas! Leave me a comment down below and let me know.
Oh!, And don’t forget to pin 🙂
